Tarrant’s

Tarrant’s is a beloved Richmond institution. With a 15 year history and locations in the historic Arts District and Short Pump, Tarrant’s combines a welcoming neighborhood atmosphere with exceptional service and a broad menu that features seasonal flavors and fresh ingredients.

Many patrons who can remember dining at the Broad Street location with their parents as kids now bring their own children for the exceptional service, fresh menu and neighborhood atmosphere.

As Tarrant’s ownership evolved, so did the need for a gentle refresh to ensure the beloved restaurant continued to attract and connect with new guests and regulars.

Located in a former pharmacy, Tarrant’s wanted to embrace the historic nature of their downtown location and make each part of the space more intentional without a shocking overhaul. Working with core basics of the restaurant’s existing layout, nostalgic built-in woodwork and its iconic window frontage, updates to the space were designed to improve flow, ambiance and functionality.

Core goals of the refresh included bringing all of the surfaces and finishes in line with each, clearing out some clutter that comes with being in business for so long, and creating more intentional design moments throughout the space.

The barback, wood paneling and built-in shelving were all painted a sophisticated sage green with new and old accessories layered in. The owners’ collection of historic artwork was mixed in with new pieces for visual consistency and a unique design element at each table.

Providing more over table lighting and centering the vintage crystal chandeliers along the main pathways of the restaurant helped with visibility.

Tarrant’s brand graphics were also given a familiar refresh, with updated menus and signage that streamlined decades of visual identity tweaks.

Overall, the brand and space now feels as thoughtful as the people and dining experience behind it.

With a nod to the nostalgia but a clear focus on freshness, Tarrant’s is as relevant and important as it's ever been to the city’s vibrant restaurant scene.
