Alma’s Gallery and Shop
Alma’s is an artist-owned gallery and shop highlighting contemporary craft. Representing internationally recognized artists in the craft field, Alma’s aims to increase exposure to and awareness of the diversity and range of materially-driven, craft art.
The founders of Alma’s Gallery wanted to create an online experience that reflected the warmth and delight of exploring and shopping in person.
Face to face, Sarah and John were able to welcome visitors, tell them the stories behind the work and products, and get them excited to explore something new.
For the Shopify website, the experience needed to provide the same level of friendly education while also sparking curiosity to find something unexpected.
Sarah and John also wanted the new gallery website to be a resource for learning about contemporary craft art and artists and for it to connect with a larger audience outside of Richmond, including serious art collectors.
Campfire & Co. worked with Alma’s team to refine their brand identity and then design and develop a new Shopify site that captured their artful and inspiring personality while also providing the powerful backend of Shopify’s e-commerce platform and plugins.
For the brand refresh, we updated the main typeface of Alma’s logo mark to make it slightly more distinct. Using their current color usage as inspiration, we refined the brand’s palette to feature warm lilacs and an unexpected chartreuse. Finally, we selected a collection of modern serif and sans serif typefaces to compliment the graphic identity.
The website’s overall look and feel is minimal, professional, and unique, with an emphasis on asymmetrical layouts and integrated snippets of text that mimics the experience of having Alma’s team personally guide you through the gallery and shop.
Functionally, the new Shopify site also does a lot of heavy lifting for the Alma’s team. From seamlessly connecting to their in-house inventory to streamlining their subscription products, and making it easier to sell and track gift cards, the website is simultaneously showcasing the brand personality while simplifying the business’ daily operations.
