Assembly wins Gabriella Page Award for Outstanding Preservation Design

Preservation Va celebrates Assembly’s innovative blend of history & modern design

Big news! Assembly, the downtown Norfolk office campus housed in a beautifully restored century-old building, has been honored with The Gabriella Page Outstanding Preservation Project Award by Preservation Virginia.

Co-designed by Work Program Architects and Campfire & Co., this vibrant space at 400 Granby Street is a shining example of blending historic preservation with modern innovation.

Assembly spans three historic Granby buildings, including the iconic Ames & Brownley (later Rice’s Department Store) and the Sears & Roebuck building. The restoration returned these spaces to their 1920s charm, while the transformation introduced public spaces, shared work areas, a stunning open-air stairwell, and a rooftop terrace. It’s now home to tech and creative powerhouses like Grow, 757 Startup Studios, and more.

This award celebrates Assembly’s role in revitalization, preservation, and innovation. We’re honored to have been part of a project that brings new life to old spaces while celebrating their stories.

Cheers to the entire team for this well-deserved recognition!
