First Place – West Cary Group
West Cary Group’s refreshed office transforms a once underutilized building into a cohesive, brand-forward workspace that balances creativity, hospitality, and functionality. A new arrival lounge sets a welcoming tone with hospitality-inspired details, while expanded windows, skylights, and glass sidelights bring in abundant natural light.
Flexible seating, huddle rooms, and an operable glass wall support both private work and all-team gatherings, with acoustic treatments and visual cues creating clarity and flow. The material palette of sandy neutrals, soft blues, and warm wood tones softens the agency’s bold identity, while custom details, like CNC-routed wall textures, locally inspired graphics, and brand-red accents, anchor the space in their creative ethos.
The reconfigured kitchen, expanded conference room, and color-drenched phone booth round out a design that now supports everything from day-to-day work to client events. The result is a modern, welcoming environment that fully reflects West Cary Group’s vision and culture.

First Place – Tilt Creative + Production
Tilt Creative + Production’s new headquarters transforms a historic timber-and-brick building in Shockoe into a vibrant, story-driven workspace that reflects the team’s minority- and women-owned leadership and creative ethos. Original materials were revealed by opening historic windows and exposing brick and beams, connecting the space to its 19th-century roots while modernizing its flow and functionality.
Dynamic patterns, bold color, and curated artwork from local and minority creators pair with custom furniture, acoustic details, and lush plant life to create an inspiring environment that balances energy with comfort. Natural light and carefully placed zones, from open workstations and lounges to editing suites and phone booths, support both collaboration and focused work.
The result is a cohesive, community-focused studio where history and creativity converge, giving Tilt a home that celebrates their culture and amplifies the stories they tell.

Honorable Mention – Sugar & Twine
Sugar & Twine’s expansion transforms the beloved Cary Street café from a walk-up window into a 3,000-square-foot gathering place designed for comfort, community, and connection. The new interior doubles the footprint, blending the building’s original character with natural textures, sage greens, and warm woods that set a welcoming tone.
A central community table anchors the space, while banquettes, solid-surface tables, and thoughtful circulation support both quiet moments to savor a latte and larger social gatherings. Functional updates like central restrooms, a reconfigured barista station, and a small prep kitchen improve operations and streamline the guest experience.
Personal details, including a hand-painted mural of native birds, meaningful artwork from the owner’s past, and gilded window signage, layer in story and soul. The result is more than a renovation: it’s a heartfelt return to shared space, where neighbors reconnect over pastries, coffee, and community.
